The Fundamentals

The fundamentals are the base from which all baseball players and coaches work from. They are the foundation of all successful teams and individuals. Notice the first three letters of the word fundamentals are: f-u-n.

The first thing I always ask a player is: why do you play baseball? The answer I am looking for is: because it is fun. If you are playing just to please someone else, or just for something to do, it won't be much fun. If you really enjoy playing and practicing, you can go far in t… Continue

Larry, there are a lot of components to hitting. To be honest, It would be helpful to see your swing, unless you want to teach others. Remember, the most important thing is to get "the sweet spot" of the bat to the ball, or, "hit the ball on the screws" as they say. Try getting your arms in a good "load" position and then make sure you don't drag your hands to the ball by continuing your forward momentun to the ball. "Square-up" the ball quickly, also known as a short swing! Make sure your head stays down on the ball, this will allow you to track the ball much better. Bat speed mostly involves good mechanics. I will acknowledge, that i do train my wrist, fingers and forearms and that strength adds to my "confidence", which is "everthing" in sports. Hope that answers your question in some way.

Hey Larry. I had a gal that asked about you to see if you could coach her son in pitching. Since you are the GREAT "LARRY HATCHER" she had wanted to know how busy you were. Call me and I will give you her number.
