Yeah, I totally agree. I pitched against Ryan Howard and Chase Utley back in the day, though, so it was fun to watch them if nothing else. What are you up to these days? How's that mental game of baseball book coming along??

Bobby - I know you're a Mets fan, but who are you going for this Post Season?

Bobby, I know you work with baseball players on the mental side, right? Can you start sharing some of your tips and ideas on how to develop mental toughness, why it's important, etc. I'm super interested in learning more about this topic in terms, specifically, of how to teach it. Are players just born mentally tough ... or can it be taught? Thanks, man. Glad you're on BaseballPlayer.com!

Follow up on last comment.
I always talk to players about focus and concentration. I instruct them on the importance of blocking out all destractions, but there are still that certain percentage of players who get "stage fright".
As a phsycologist, do you have any suggestions?

Bobby, I have a lot of respect for you as a volunteer coach. Coaches who volunteer their time to help youngsters play ball are the backbone of the sport, and have a much harder job than I do.
Where you deal with a whole team of players and coaches, I only deal with them one at a time (generally). It is easy. I hope that coaches and personal trainers can learn to work together better. If a personal trainer can help one of your players be a better player, isn't that good for your team?
As a sports phsycologist, what (in a nutshell) would you say to a player who is suffering from stage fright? We call them 5 oclock hitters? They hit and perform well in practice, but get stage fright during games.
