I am a coach of a 14u travel team. I teach the palm ball as a changeup. The kids are use to it because when they were little that is how they threw the ball.

Changeup's really all about the pronation of the arm on release. With a good grip and a little turning it over at the end, you should get some nice downward movement with no stress on the arm. We've got some good discussions on the changeup at letstalkpitching.com.

Running and lifting in the off-season are pretty standard ... just be sure to really add some more explosive training like plyos and med-ball work. We want to train the movements of pitching more explosively in the weight room!
