This is one of the best posts I've read. Very honest and thoughtful.

i have a kid playing travel ball, i am conflicted as to whether I want him to continue, he is 9. the problem isn't playing at another level( which this is ) the problem is number 1 the coach only wants to win, They pick the best players and only to win and win, ya they practice but I have seen MANY travel team coaches who spend very little time teaching the kids any skills, only game situation tatics. I coach rec team and spend much more time teaching the kids skills. The travel kids may be a little better but they still need to be taught how not just WIN. The other problem for me is the stress of playing every game as a have to win game. League play ya, they want to win , but with travel ball every game is life or death to many of the coaches.

I guess travel ball can be a good experience for a kid but you need to take the time as a parent to make sure what the coaches goals are , If it to win another trophy every other week or mon th then i would advise you to stay away from travel ball or find another team where the coach actually teaches the kids something

Iam sorry to hear your sons coach doesnt work on skills that is very important when i go to practice we work on skills and game situations maybe u should talk with his coach look at the pros they dont put there bats away after the season is over the work on batting skills in the off season to stay sharp as far as the coach wanting to win all the time i think thats every bodys dream every one wants to be the best no matter what it is i dont go to school to be last in my class travel ball is about being #1 being on top the best there is but you have to remember there is always some one out there who can beat you loosing some times is good it shows where you are week and what you need to do to get better there is also a lot of life lessons that can be learned from all this good luck .

I believe it dosent matter where you play. As long as the kid shows intrest in the sport and wants to be the best. As a parent I always encourage my son to be the best. This is where my problem is my son is begining to lose intrest because he is not being challenged. I thought about signing him up for travelball to keep him challenged.

I think there is a place for both rec and travel. Depnding on what you want out of it. I have that exceptional players at young ages learn more and perform better playing rec at a higher age group. It chalenges them to do better. They also learn a lot for kids a couple years older. I have seen talented kids play at a high level playing up in rec and then be average at best on travel team of there own age because there was nobody to push them. I wouyld challenge you , look around at kids that are playhing up. Then look at travel team of thier age, the kid playiong up is many toimes much better than any off the kids on the travel team Only probelm is that a lot of rec leagues will not allow kids to play up

I have not been on in a while because my dad grounded me from the site because I let one of my friends use my sign on and reply to some of your messages. I can get back on now but I have to build a new site because my friend still knows how to get on the this one. I play travel, cal ripken jr, and have played little league I think they are all good. Any baseball is good baseball
